Bollywood Superstars: Then And Now !

Bollywood Superstars: Then and Now!

The only unchangeable thing in the world, they say, is Change. Here are lined up 14 Bollywood superstars who have stood the test of time and carved their names in gold. All of them have fought their own battles, as is evident from the faces.

Kareena Kapoor

Except for that rosy ‘gaal’, which is conspicuous by its absence, and those newly acquired “lean cheeks” (a Size Zero fallout) nothing much has changed with Kareena Kapoor. She continues to star in more teenage fantasies than Bollywood movies!

Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachchan, they say, is the ageless wonder of Indian Cinema. Looks-wise, however, Bachchan’s career is an evolution chart of sorts. Compare these two pictures: The Big B of ‘Laawaris’ and the Mighty B of 2009!

Salman Khan

It was at a 1989 Filmfare event that we first spotted Salman Khan. He had a lean bod with...err…bulbous eyes and sunken cheeks! Well, if we say it now, it might be considered blasphemy! Speaks a lot for what the man has achieved over the years!

Aamir Khan

The choco-boy of ‘QSQT’ began with a cherubic grin that, 21 years later, got translated into the vengeful frown in ‘Ghajini’. The wavy hair gave way to the cornfield-with-a-pathway cut. The Aamir Khan of 2009 is eons ahead of what the QSQT “chokra” promised us in 1988.

Shah Rukh Khan

Surinder Sahni of ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ is SRK’s way of telling the world: “Here I am, undefeated by age!” Bespectacled and mustached, and recovering from the aftermath of a Six-Pack diet schedule, King Khan is tired but passionate!

Saif Ali Khan

Where did that long mane go? The Saif of ‘Aashiq Aawara’, it seems, has been demolished and rebuilt into a super hunk with sculpted bod and muscled craft. The new Saif is not “SAK Reloaded” It is “SAK Reconstructed”!!

Sanjay Dutt

This 1993 snap of Sanju Baba seems to us now to be an artifact stolen from some museum. 15 years of drama, tragedy and turmoil..! This one is really a Born-Again!

Akshay Kumar

Rajiv Bhatia came to Bombay and earned a name as the Kungfu Khiladi of Bollywood. Somewhere along the line, Akki stumbled upon a thing called Acting, and has, ever since, been applauded for his histrionics. Akki lost not even an iota of charm during this transition. What then was the price for his fame? Well.., it was his body hair, we guess!

Aishwarya Rai

Age has been desperately trying to wreck a wrinkle on Ash! It has achieved in landing two laugh-lines, which make the superstar lovelier than ever!

Rani Mukherji

There was a time when Rani Mukherji was synonymous with black minis! Times have changed, and how! Those hazel eyes speak of a lengthy flashback!

Rajesh Khanna

Rajesh Khanna, in his ‘Aradhana’ days, felt as if he was “next to God”. Three decades later, he does ‘Waafa’, a bedroom thriller. Next to who, sir?

Sunny Deol

No heroine of the young Sunny Deol could have dreamt of running her hands through his hair. The curls were as thick as a Rhodesian bush! See what time has done with the help of a hair-fixer!

Preity Zinta

The bubbly lass of ‘Soldier’ and ‘Dil Se’ has come of age. The Preity Zinta of 2009 is a Czarina! You just cannot mess with her.

Jackie Shroff

The King of Deadpan, Jackie Shroff was the lady-killer prototype of the 1980s. Time has tried its best to improvise on and repackage the famed Shroff look. What we see now is the face of a weather-beaten veteran, who has seen a thousand wars!

Anil Kapoor

In 1982, Anil Kapoor played son to Amitabh Bachchan and grandson to Dilip Kumar in ‘Shakti’! So, we cannot blame him for thinking that he was the legal heir to Big B’s throne. Come 2009, and Anil Kapoor is happy with what he has achieved: level-headedness!
